Ignorance Is Not Bliss

The singing voice—because of its muscular nature—is able to be trained to behave in a rich variety of ways. This fact of human bio-mechanics is both a blessing and a curse—a blessing because it allows for artistic individuality and technical diversity to emerge, but, unfortunately, it's also a curse because it frees a voice to behave in ways that may do itself serious, sometimes irreparable, harm. If you justify your manner of singing simply because it "works," you may have a problematic singing future awaiting you, perhaps one that is cut short right at the moment when you should be at your best. Sadly, this is the tragic story much too often, even with our greatest singers!
